SUMMER READING CONTEST
WORKSHOP

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH, 10TH, & 11TH GRADE

In this dynamic and fun hands-on workshop with Dr. Jennifer Bernstein, you’ll be going on an intellectual journey into the heart of the New York Times and creating at least 3 entries for its 8th Annual Summer Reading Contest.

This isn’t your ordinary class!

You get to explore whatever New York Times articles, podcasts, photographs, and videos (from 2017) you want. We’ll be having really good conversations, analyzing the work of previous winners, discussing what it takes to write compelling contributions, writing, sharing drafts, and more. You’ll also get individualized feedback from Dr. Bernstein.

The supportive collaborative environment will help you increase your confidence as a thinker, writer, and speaker.

2 BONUSES

After the course, you’ll receive free access to the module from the online Get Yourself Into College® program that teaches you how to create a curriculum vitae (which is sort of like a resume). Your experience writing and submitting to the Summer Reading Contest is definitely something you can put on your CV!

At the end of August, we’ll have an online group meeting to catch up, discuss your accomplishments since the workshop ended, address your questions and any challenges that have come up for you, and build even more momentum as you prepare for the new school year. We’ll figure out a day and time that works best for the group, and the online meeting with be recorded.
